What is Brush Cutting?
Brush cutting tackles vegetation between mowing and clearance — too rough for a lawnmower, too light for a flail or forestry mulcher. Tall grass, weeds, light scrub, brambles up to about 3cm thick, and self-seeded saplings can all be cleared with a professional petrol brushcutter and a metal blade.
It's a routine service for paddocks, churchyards, smallholdings, commercial perimeters and any land that needs an annual or quarterly knock-back. We bring the right blade for the job — strimmer head for grass and weeds, three-tooth blade for scrub, circular saw blade for thicker stems.
Most domestic brushcut visits are completed in 2–6 hours including arisings raked or removed. Larger commercial work scheduled by area.
Who It's For
- Smallholders and paddock owners
- Churchyards and cemeteries
- Commercial sites with unmanaged perimeters
- Anyone with rough ground a lawnmower can't handle
When It's Needed
- Grass and weeds over 30cm tall
- Light scrub establishing in unmown areas
- Annual or seasonal site tidy-up
- Pre-fence-installation clearance
What Happens If You Leave It
Letting rough ground go for two seasons turns a brushcut job into a clearance job — costs go up 3–4×. Annual brushcutting keeps land usable and cheap to maintain.
Brushcutter use looks easy on YouTube; it's hard, hot, dangerous work in practice. Domestic brushcutters often lack the power for serious vegetation. Save your weekend.

Brush Cutting: The Full Detail
Blade Selection By Vegetation Type
Nylon strimmer line: grass, soft weeds, edging. Metal three-tooth blade: tougher weeds, light bramble, nettles. Eight-tooth scrub blade: established bramble and light scrub. 200mm carbide saw blade: woody stems up to 3cm, small saplings.
Above 3cm woody stems, we switch to chainsaw work. Anything over 5cm is properly tree-work territory.
Health & Safety In Brushcutting
Brushcutter incidents are a leading cause of injury in groundscare work. Our operators wear full PPE (face shield, ear defenders, leg protection, steel toecap boots) and use harnesses on all professional petrol units. We don't cut blind — vegetation is checked for ground hazards (stones, fly-tipping) before each pass.
Every job is covered by £5m Public Liability Insurance and carried out under method statements and risk assessments tailored to your site.
