    What is Vegetation Clearance?

Vegetation clearance is the catch-all term for removing unwanted plant growth — scrub, brambles, self-seeded saplings, ivy, ferns, nettles, dock — from any size of plot. It sits between site clearance (which strips everything) and selective management (which keeps desired features).

We use the right tool for the scale: brushcutters and chainsaws for small areas, ride-on flails for medium scrub, and tracked forestry mulchers for acres of dense growth. All arisings chipped or removed.

Domestic jobs are typically 1–2 days. Commercial and rural clearance is scoped by area, with day-rate or fixed-price options.

    Who It's For

    • Homeowners with overgrown corners, side returns or back fences
    • Smallholders managing fields and paddocks
    • Commercial landlords with overgrown perimeters
    • Highways and rail managing trackside vegetation

    When It's Needed

    • Scrub or saplings have taken over an unused area
    • Visibility from boundaries needs restoring
    • Ground is being prepared for fencing, paving or planting
    • Annual or seasonal vegetation control is needed

What Happens If You Leave It

Vegetation expands aggressively when ignored. A patch of bramble doubles in size every two years; self-seeded sycamores reach 4m in five years; ivy can cover a wall or tree completely in three. The longer it's left, the more expensive it gets.

Strimmer-and-bag DIY rarely produces a lasting result. Without removing root systems, regrowth is back within weeks. We strip to ground, treat regrowth where required, and recommend any follow-up needed.

    Vegetation Clearance: The Full Detail

    Mechanical Methods For Different Densities

Light scrub (under 5cm stem): flail mower or brushcutter, single pass, regrowth treated chemically if required. Medium scrub (5–15cm): chainsaw and brushcutter combined, stumps chemically treated or ground out. Heavy scrub (15cm+ saplings): chainsaw felling, stump grinding, full clearance.

For acres of mixed scrub, a tracked forestry mulcher mulches everything in place to a 15–20cm depth, leaving useable ground without arisings to remove. Hire-rate plant; we'll quote.

    Wildlife & Nesting Considerations

Active bird nests are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. We check vegetation before clearing during the nesting season (1 March – 31 August) and reschedule any active areas. Major mechanical clearance is best done October–February.

Hedgehogs, dormice and reptiles can also be present. Ground-level vegetation is hand-cleared first to allow wildlife to disperse before mechanical work begins.

Every job is covered by £5m Public Liability Insurance and carried out under method statements and risk assessments tailored to your site.
